Much discussion was had when developing this site over whether to display real names or just nicknames. The argument, a valid one, was put that real names are essential to a user when assessing the reliability of any contributions. So real names were made visible in users' profile pages and this was made this clear in the privacy policy.

I've now revisited this decision, and added a setting for 'hide my real name'. New users now get offered that option when they sign up, and existing users can change it by going to Profile -> Edit f they do not want their real names to be visible to others.
