NZTM2000: 1818592, 5652329 (alt: 1577m)  
   A bronze plaque on a large rock which marks the spot where 14 university students sheltered over three nights after descending, in blizzard conditions, from the top of Mt Ruapehu on August 29, 1931. Warwick Stanton and a companion set out to get assistance and his body was later found in the Makatote Gorge after a three week search.
