Hut locations are sourced from DOC, downloaded via koordinates.com.

- PostGIS - geodatabase functionality for PostGreSQL
- RGeo - GIS adaptor for ruby/rails
- MapServer - serving route and point data
(a simple TMS directory structure is used for serving topo map tiles)
- OpenLayers - client-side map rendering
- Proj4 - client-side projection / grid-reference conversions
- NicEdit - client-side formatted text editor used in stories
Additionally the following were used for processing data used here:
- GDAL - projecting, stitching and tiling maps, DEM and DOC hut data
- QGIS - georeferencing LINZ 'small-scale maps'
