From the signposted junction 2km from the Kaitoke end of the railtrail, a forestry road - open to the public - is signposted to the Tunnel Track and Maymorn. This track climbs steadily through pine forest to 500m, before heading equally steeply back down to join the Tunnel Track 100m from it;'s Kaitoke end.

There are many turnoffs on the route, and little/no signposting, so take a map. If on bike, note that this section is far more strenuous than the railtrail itself.

From the Kaitoke end of the tunnel track, a forestry road - open to the public - is signposted to the Rimutaka Incline railtrail. This track climbs steadily through pine forest to 500m, before zigzagging back down to join the railtrail 2km from its western end.
