From Te Pourewa Hut, follow the marked, cut DOC track west climbing to a low saddle and descending to a small sidestream after 200m. Cross the stream (ankle deep in normal flows - unlikely to be a problem). The main climb then begins - 2km in which you ascent 400m to pt 690. The track swings north at pt 690, dropping to a saddle and climbing again to an unmarked peak. At the summit yellow triangles mark the junction with the main ridge route running north along the ridgeline.
