Note: Described in the reverse direction to your journey
This route avoids tricky alpine terrain to the north, avoids scrub higher in the creek, but involves an 'unnecessary' 250m climb back out of White Creek. Which permission from Makarora Station you may be able to avoid this climb and continue down the southern vallesyside to the road. From the saddle (pt1590) follow the ridgeline south to the first unnumbered highpoint, and then take the obvious spur NW. Follow a good ground trail down the spur to the boundary fence. Follow the fencline north to the head of bush in White Creek. Bush is scrubby for 5m, but good and ope once you're in it. Follow the side-spur north down to White creek, and nose around for a good crossing (the creek is bluffed in places). Creek is easily crossed in normalflows - dry feet. Climb the far side and follow the spur opposite up to the bushline. At the bushline you will find a signpost and the Mt Shrimpton Track.
