From Crooked Spur Hut, follow the poled route briefly south to the stream, and then follow that west, swinging south to the pass. South of the pass, the sparsely poled route follows the stream down to Pack Horse Stream, crosses is and climbs the face opposite before sidling SE to the pass west of pt1402. From there the route is obviious, continuiing south, crossing Sweeps Stream and keeping west of pt1346. Eventually the route hits the end of an old farm track which leads briefly east to down the main Bush Stream, a bridge, and Stone Hut.

A bridge crosses Bush Stream just below Stone Hut, leading to an old farm track climbing the opposite bank to reach terraces there. A poled route then runs north, cutting west of pt1346 and 1402 to cross Pack Horse Stream at the base of the gully draining Crooked Spur Pass. The poled route runs up the creek, climbing to the pass. On the northern sidce of the pass the route follows the stream down to Crooked Spur Hut.

An alternative route is to sidle north from the pass onto the main spur and follow that down to the hut - better views, and shorter tussocks, but a 1km scree sidle from the pass to the spur.
