From the signposted track junction south of Green Hill, the Possum Hut route (cut/marked ramping track) sidles the southern face of the hill onto the spur through mature manuka forest, before dropping east to Possum Hut. The last 100m of descent are very steep and slippery. The historic Possum Hut is rundown and probably no longer suited for overnight stays. There is no camping at the hut, but good flats exist 500m east between the main river forks.
