The Ashley riverbed is broad and flat, with crown land including large expanses of both banks. Travel down the riverbed from the road bridge is easy on stable river rocks and grassy banks. Crossings were ankle deep when I visited, but it should be possible to remain on the south-eastern bank if necessary.

Note that the track crossing to De Bourbles (Wharfedale Road) is private.

Dorman Stream is reached about 1km after the De Bourbles access track crosses the river. A legal road runs along the fenceline to the north of Dorman Stream, climbing to Mt Richardson.
