Return to the main ridge & immediately climb SE up to an un-named high point of 700m above the TR branch in the head of Ngutuoha Stream. The track swings to the NE for a short time before dropping E-SE into a saddle, where it again swings to the NE climbing to another 700m high point, halfway between the TR & middle head branches of the stream. The track flattens out & continues heading NE for 300m to the immediate head of the middle branch of Ngutuoha Stream. Here the track swings abruptly S-SE traversing above the two branches of the TL head of Ngutuoha Stream for 1km. A junction atop an un-named high point on the 680m contour & marked with three different coloured triangles, indicates a track to the NE & to the hut (although this is a secondary track). Head south along the 'main' track from the un-named high point towards a saddle where a junction marked with two orange triangles is reached. The ridge track continues south & the track to the hut heads due north through a flat section of bush for 300m.

An alternative route exists from Otamatuna Hut from beside the toilet which utilises 1km of sidle tracks on the north side of the 'main' ridge track, before joining the 'main' track where it abruptly swings S-SE. Note: there is a multitude of coloured trapping lines crossing this route, including a route that heads directly north down a spur over pt. 530.
