From Cookies Hut a further 2.5km of riverbed travel takes you to Cookes Point at the forks of the Swift River and North Ashburton River. Crossing of the Swift were simple enough - knee deep on good shingle - after a night of moderate rain. The Ashburton is larger and can be more tricky.
