A rough (roots, rock) tramping track runs down the Karamea Valley from Trevor Carter Hut to Thor Hut. Three options exist: cross the river 1km upstream of the hut via the swingbridge, cross the river at the hut (ford), or cross the river 2.5km downstream of the hut (ford). The first two options result in a 2.5-3km sidle of the northern valleyside on a rough track and add 1hr and 30 mins to the trip respectively. The main side creek, Kendall Creek must be forded if using either of the first two options, and will be impassable after heavy rain (ankle-knee deep in normal flows). Crossings of the main river are thigh to waist deep in normal flows. Assuming Kendall Creek or the main river are crossable, all other sidecreeks between Trevor Carter and Thor hut are minor and should not pose problems. 2-3 hrs
