From Snowy Gorge Hut, head north up the valley on good flats to the creek draining the saddle with the Maitland. Climb the spur on the north side of the creek draining the saddle - there are occasional poles. A good trail follows the escarpment of the Snowy north for a bit before petering out. Angle for the saddle and cross it on flat terraces just west of the low point. Initially descent of the Maitland is in tall slow tussock, but good trails later form near the river - mainly on the true right (east). After 1.5km drop into the main basin of the Maitland - an easy descent starts on the true right. Once in the main valley a good dry ridge of river gravel or moraine runs down the true left (north) of the river wand provides easy travel to the bushedge. The track start is 100m up the left fork of the river and requires a brief scramble to reach. There is a large triangle on the bushedge at the track start.

A good cut track runs through beech forest for the remaining 1.5km to Maitland Hut.
