From Sandy Bay Hut, head back to the junction. Track meanders on easy gradient with occasional glimpses of various ponds. Kaipo Lagoon is the only one that the track goes close to and so is the only water source. Small climb to the Pukepuke spur until the track turns eastwards. No markers to designate the bend, however you you a vista of the Te Kei Stream valley through the trees.
