From Owhakaroto Clearing, travel south to an easy crossing place just below large rock ledge that stands out in the middle of the river. There are likely many other places to cross depending on how wet you are willing to get.
Follow TL of the river to the junction with Anina Stream. Crossing Anini Steam is easy when the river is low, but would be difficult after rain.
This took 3 hours to get to the junction at slow pace.
Mostly open bush and easy going.
From the confluence there is a deer track that goes straight up North onto the spur. Once you hit Tupunui Steam you are mostly wading through ferns for the rest of the way to Rua's track.
Getting from the Tupunui Steam onto the main spur to Pt 946 is rather vague and will take good compass or a GPS. The spur is mostly good going.
From Pt 946, drop down to the North East. The ferns are really thick here and it is tricky to pick up the Spur heading North West.
There is water (in Summer) in the stream just before Rua's track. It would be possible to go right through Rua's track without seeing it.
Once you pick up the track, head West to the stream. There is flattish areas 50m west of the stream suitable for camping.
