Moir's guide provides a very good description of the Otoko route. The initial section from Otoko Lake Flats is through a mixture of fairly open bush, boulder hopping and short scrubbier sections. There are numerous deer trails. The ascent of Harker Torrent is straight forward on tussock and then scree. The valley was filled with avalanche snow from about 1100m at Xmas time.
