Descend NE over pt1622 and pick up the old 4wd track at the 1500m contour. Follow its zigzags down into the Upper Kurow basin.

Follow the 4wd track across the upper Kurow basin to the base of the spur leading to pt1622. Either follow the zig-zag track or ascend directly in tall tussock. The track ends at the 1500m contour from where a direct ascent to pt1622 is straight forward. pt1730 is a short scree-scramble beyond.
