Climbing east from Castle Camp the track soon leaves the beech forest for the last time, and continues on tussock and rock tops east towards Kaiarahi Highpoint. Here a track junction is signposted: south to The Lakes roadend via The Tits and The Rogue, or north-east towards Studholme and Kaweka J.

Heading west from Kaiarahi, sticking to the main range, the poled route crosses a few small knobs before dropping back into beech forest. Just beyond, at the first saddle, lies the unusual Castle Camp.
