Sep 2014. Where the gravel farm track branches stay closest to the river. Travel on the gravel and boulders where its easier but do pick up the track where it goes up to cross the Whataroa Perth bridge. Heading up the left bank climb over a couple of major gorges, use a few gravel/boulder sections but watch for the large DOC triangles where the track restarts and for most of the valley you stay on a track not far from the river. When you pass the end of a bridge that goes to the true left, don't cross - another ten minutes will see you at the hut.

None of the side creeks are bridged. In regular west coast rain the creeks rise quickly and several, particularly close to the road, can quickly become dangerous. Two huts marked on the map do exist but are locked. In spring 2014 100m of tangled windfalls north of Burrow Creek were best passed on the uphill side.
