From Halfway Hut the Dusky Track continues up valley through the forested section of the Hauroko Burn. A walkwire crosses the Hauroko Burn to its true right after 1.5 hours from the hut, which is followed the rest of the way to the tops. The track climbs steadily out of the head of the valley, the forest giving way to subalpine forest and then scrub. After clearing the trees, a boggy alpine field is crossed, and after climbing up a last scrubby hill, Lake Laffy at the southern end of Furkert Pass comes into view. The track heads up the lake's western side where a T intersection of tracks is reached. A signpost points east up the hill where Lake Roe Hut is located amoung some scrub and boggy tarns.
