From the locked gate, it's about 6km down the road to the lowest point. Drop into reasonably open bush, before meeting a line of scrub on the edge of open flats. At the south end of the flats, find the remains of the old hut which used to stand here. A well defined track leads to the best river crossing. Up the Florence, stick to good deer trails mostly, but not always, on the river margins, avoiding bogs and small tarns. Climb south of Point 512 to cross a ferny saddle. Descend on the other side to open bush, and a good campspot just over a small creek
