Up TR of Mike River o on lightly flagged route to first lake, which has multiple dead trees in it. Pack-raft to head then ascend the TL, staying away from the river. This is slower than it looks. Paddle the next lake to the head, then push through the scrub to get close to the Mike River. There is fairly thick scrub in the bush, and slow going. Cross the Mike River below the forks, through quite deep, slow flowing water. Ascend the ridge climbing steeply to the south. Once clear of the bushline, there are multiple campsites beside small tarns on the ridge.
