Good track from Te Akaou to Forks: drops north, crossing a small stream then climbs gently east to the ridgeline which it follows for 1km or so though low regenerating bush and occasional mature trees left by the loggers. 100m from Forks the track swings east and drops very steeply to hit the creek opposite the hut. Forks Hut is on a small flat between the two forks. River crossing is unbridged but low and crossable in most conditions.
