From Forbes Hut, head 1.5km up the valley flats to The Forks, crossing the eastern fork (ok in normal conditions). The track shown on maps still exists, starting between the 2 forks, and sidling the true left of the western fork, later crossing to the true right. The track is rough (2012) but usable and finding the start took some nosing around. About 2km upstream, the track dumps you on tussock and scrub faces. From here, continue up the river, banks, or faces as conditions permit. The hut shown on the TL on older maps here no longer exists. Access up to the Wilson Pass is best from the base of the next stream south of the pass.
