From Dead Dog, cross the creek and climb the face opposite. Deer trains through mature beech. The face consolidated into a spur, which we follow steeply up until things level out. Permolat markers appear and a fain ground trail accompanies them up the ridgeline. From here on markers are normally within site for the rest of the climb to the main range.

Approachoing the first clearing at pt1075 windfall becomes a problem, and the track is obliterated. We find a way past it on the southern face just below the ridgeline, emerging onto the ridge once the clearing proper starts. The track follows the northern escarpment on the gravel lip of the face, before returning to bush. 2 more clearings follow - track unmarked in the clearing but markers resuming once back on the bush,

Markers indicate the junction with the old Herricks track at the junction of Herricks Spur.

Above the junction going gets harder with toetoe and scrub making their appearance. Slow going for the last 1km to the bushedge with windfall also becoming a problem again. Emerging onto the tops, cut west to hit the main range track which runs along the western escarpment at this point.

For those heading down, the track to Deag Dog heads off the main track onto the summit just by a signpost saying 'Farmland'.
