A well used, poled track heads north from Anderson's Memorial hut, following the marshy plateau then climbing briefly east onto the ridgeline. It follows the tops as it climbs gently to reach Junction Knob where a signpost marks the turnoff to Waitewaewae Hut.

This section is high and exposed, but on a broad ridge and can generally be traversed in most conditions.

A well worn track continues south, marked by cairns and poles over pt1356, and down to the tarns, following a muddy plateau to reach the well-maintained Anderson Memorial Hut where the bushline rises to meet the main ridge.
