From the signposted track junction, the 4WD track climbs to a saddle and drops to Camp Stream where a signpost marks the turnoff upriver (north) to Stag Pass and Royal Hut. The creek must be forded and was ankle deep in normal conditions - It's a long catchment so flooding is a possibility. Camp Stream Hut is a further 500m SW along the 4WD track.

From Camp Stream Hut head north along the 4WD track, dropping for 500m to Camp Stream where a signpost marks the turnoff north (upriver) to Stag Pass / Royal Hut. The creek must be forded and was ankle deep in normal conditions - It's a long catchment so flooding is a possibility. The 4WD track then climbs NW to a saddle and drops 100m to read a boundary fence where a DOC signpost marks the turnoff west to Coal Creek roadend.
