A steep, rough 4WD track descends from Young Australian, passing the old mining settlement of Carricktown before descending steeply to Quartzvale Road in Bannockburn.

A steep, rough 4WD yrack climbs from the end of Quartzvakle Road. After 2km or so it passes the remains of an old mining community at Carricktown. From here it continues to climb, becoming gentler and reaching the restored Young Australian waterwheel shortly before the summit of the range.
