The benched track continues north from the Saxon Falls turnoff, rounding the spur into the Taipo. A small benched area contains the remains of Broughs Tabernacle - an old road-surveyor's hut. The track then starts to descend to the valley floor, where a swingbridge crosses to the north bank, intersecting the track from Trevor Carter Hut to Taipo Hut.

Crossing the swingbridge to the south bank of the Taipo, the Wangapeka track climbs gently to 100m above the valley floor and sidles into the upper Karamea. A small benched area on the corner contains the remains of Broughs Tabernacle - an old road-surveyor's hut. After 1km, a signposted track junction is reached, where a track drops east to Trevor Carter Hut via Saxon Falls.
