Cross the small creek at the roadend (ankle deep) trough the gate and follow the signposted 4WD track up the south side of Paddle Hill Creek. After 300m, Te Araroa joins from the north at a signposted junction. A further 1.5km up the valley the track forks, with a 4WD track climbing left onto a terrace (Te Araroa to Lake Clearwater) and the main track continuing up the valley floor towards Boundary Creek Hut. The junction was not signposted in Mar 2016.

From the track junction at the forks in Paddle Hill Creek, the rough 4WD track continues downriver. After 1km a signposted track junction is reached with a rough tramping track (Te Araroa) branching left and the main 4WD track continuing a further 400m to the roadend.
