Best to check Remote Huts site for up to date information on this track. It had two rounds of maintenance from Hugh Van Noorden and others in Permolat in 2017 and 2018 and DoC did a chain saw run in 2021.

The sidle route follows the western valleyside (about 140m above the river where it passes the Koropuku forks). At the time of publication on this site, the author said "The face is choked with windfall and any sign of an old track long gone. Occasional DOC triangles are all there are to mark the route. Two creek crossings require brief exposed scrambles. The route drops to river flats 1km below the hut. I followed the riverbed from here up, so can;t say whether the track along this last section is any better."

For those following the river, the hut is not visible from the river, but look out the a clearing on the terrace 100m upstream of the East/West Otehake forks on the NW bank.

I typically achieve 4km/h on sidle tracks such as this. This one took 3hrs to cover 3km.
