This segment is the easy part of the high route through the Dragons Teeth - but difficult in poor visibility.

The route climbs from Lonely Lake, on an obvious cairned track, and gains the tops in the saddle below Drunken Sailors. The 'low route' goes East and the 'high route' west. No longer an obvious footpad but still ocasionally cairned, the route sidles between the 1400 and 1500 contours until reaching a point 100m below SH1564.

Here the 'high route' descends steeply to cross a large gap before climbing to Anatoki Peak. However, instead, this segment climbs to the spot height summit for panoramic views.

Allow an hour for this route, the easiest part of the Dragons Teeth high route. However, that assumes no mistakes - which is unlikely even in good weather.

The route is easier in this direction as the cairns are more visible - would be very tough in poor visibility.

From the summit of SH1564, descent steeply to cairns that lead down to the 1400m contour - then sidle, climbing mostly, towards the leering face of the Drunken Sailors.

Pass through the saddle under the Drunken Sailors and, following the now obvious track, descent (initially on the TL) to Lonely Lake hut.
