Head up along the ridge from Blyth Hut via marked route. This starts out in scrub and some trees, but gradually opens out onto exposed terraced ridge. Easy climb. DOC pole markers give way to cairns built from stone. Head up to around the 1500m contour before crossing the Mangaehuehu Stream just shy of the forks. This is a bit of a scramble from the eastern bank over to the western bank. Take care in icy weather! A steep bare slope takes you back onto the top of the adjacent ridge, marked by a cairn. Head back south-southeast to p1484, before crossing Waiharuru Stream. Nice gentle descent through marsh, linking up with the round the mountain track. Difficult to miss the track, as long as you're heading downhill from here you will eventually hit the track. No bush-bashing required!
