From Gunsight Pass descend the scree basin to the northeast. There are places to camp on fine gravel and grass, with some large rocks to shelter beside (not under) where the basin flattens out. Descend the scrubby slopes alongside the stream (we stayed on true left to minimise bush, but the bush was fairly open). Descend open beech forest (avoid the gorge in the stream) to meet the Cupola Stream track. (We went down instead of sidling from tops to Cupola Hut, because we were heading out to the road the same day).
