From the Makahu Saddle Hut the track passes the door of Makahu Hut. The track heads north along a nicely benched track, whilst it climbs in & out of small streams & over pt. 895. The route descends a small open stream bed before climbing steeply to a flat ridge a few hundred metres south of Kaweka Flats Biv.

From the biv the track heads south & immediately crosses a stream before traversing a flat ridge. The track descends steeply to an open stream. Climb 150m up the stream & locate the track marker on the true right. The track climbs to pt 895 & continues south, climbing in & out of small stream along a nicely benched track. The hut passes the door of Makahu Saddle hut before emerging into the car park.
