A good cut/marked tramping track climbs ~1000m to Mt Oxford summit from teh DOC carpark at the end of Mountain Road.

From the carpark follow the 4WD track, fording the river (ankle deep) and heading up the east bank past the scout camp. The tramping track to Mt Oxford starts soon after and is signposted.

The cut/marked track crosses the creek again (this time on a bridge) and climbs onto the spur beyond which ti follows all the way to the summit. The climb is long and continuous but not especially steep. The bushedge is passed at around 1000m and the last 350m to the summit have good views of the Canterbury Plains and the ranges to the west. The summit is marked by a radio repeater station and a DOC signpost. There are no obvious water sources.
