A scrubby-in-places but viable ridgeline route connects the Lower Windley and Acton valleys, between Lower Windley Hut and Acton Hut.
Climb east behind Lower Widnley Hut eventually picking up a defined spur leading to pt1004. The summit is quite scrubby and better travel may be found just south of the peak. Continue east along the ridgeline to pt 1046 through good open faces just south of the ridgeline. 100m east of pt1046 drop SE down an undefined scrubby face to the saddle with pt964. The descent is slow going. Cross the saddle and follow the open ridge south to pt964. Again, drop ESE down a scrubby undefined face to the next saddle before picking up more open bush as the ridgeline climbs east over unnumbered peak to pt938.
A good, maintained ATV/quad track runs from pt938 ESE donw the spur to the Acton River which it meets 100m north of the bushedge where signposts mark the start of the tracks to Cromel Branch and Cromel Base huts. The Acton River must be crossed to reach Acton Hut - ankle deep in normal flows.
To reach Acton Hut, follow the Cromel Base track east along the fenceline for 400m, then swing briefly up the next sidecreek shown on the map to find Acton Hut in the clearing on its southern bank.
