The first 3km of Chamois Creek below the forks are moderate going on the rocky riverbed or flats of slow scrub / tall grass & thistle. However, the valley gorges out for the last 2km to Timaru River and progress is slower int he river with multiple river crossings - generally ankle-knee deep.
