From Tailing Hut, follow the main track 100m onto the terrace above the hut and take the signposted turnoff to Hut Creek Hut. The track follows the terrace before dropping to the river which it follows briefly downstream, crossing 3 times - typically ankle-knee deep but floods after rain. For people on foot all but 1 on these crossings can be avoided by following the riverbank.
The track then climbs and descends over three spurs, crossing two further small sidecreeks (ankle deep in normal flows). Three other 4wd track cut right off the main track during this time and should be ignored - they lead to Green Hut by a variety fo routes and are not maintained. Marker poles at each junction indicate the correct route.
The final descent to Hut Creek is steep and can be impassable to vehicles in wet conditions.
The stone built Hut Creek Hut (Pig Shit Inn) sits on flats 100m up-valley beside a set of old sheep yards.
