A well-maintained cut, marked tramping track runs through mature forest behind the lakeshore between Manapouri and Hope Arm Hut. 3km from the Manapouri end a signpost marks the turnoff up Stinking Creek to Back Valley Hut.

A boat of some sort is required to cross the inlet at Pearl Harbour to reach the start of the track. DOC state that row-boats are available for hire. There is a public boat ramp.
