Altitude: 1281m to 1749m. Gain: 1000m. Loss: 966m . Gradient: 16 deg (Moderate-hard)
Skills: Alpine weather (2/7) Winter - Iceaxe/crampons, avalanche risk (5/7)
Begin climbing to the tops (moving to the right of the scree, as you stand in the saddle, looking up). Follow the scree edge all the way to the tops and continue over 1724, 1755 and 1723. A marked tarn makes good camping, sheltered from the NW (although water quality was poor in Mar 2020 but better available 30m below).
Gain the Trovatore summit (with locked shed, PV and comms antenna) then descend the SW ridge to 1670m and drop down easy slopes to the obvious tarn (1510m). Maintaining this height, traverse to under Travers then climb to the high shoulder (1640m). Although not done by us, it looks quite feasible to summit Travers and continue SE and S down the ridge. It also looks OK to gain the saddle between Travers and 1690m and climb to the Travers summit.
From the shoulder, traverse and descend into the col and pickup the S ridge. A footpad leads down into Boucher Saddle (1320m)
