From Camp Creek hut, follow marked track up a very steep spur to the tussock tops of the Alexander Range. The route is marked by poles above the bushline. When reaching the tops, there is a marked route leading right towards the tarns by pt 1328 - instead go left, up the ridgeline towards pt 1795. There are poles intermittently marking the route, but some would be difficult to spot in low visibility. The route is less steep here than in the bushline, with almost no exposure as far as pt 1795. There are some tarns around the 1400m mark a few hundred meters after the track leaves the spur.

Reaching Pt 1795 gives stunning panoramic views. From pt 1795, the route follows the obvious ridge towards Mt Alexander. The route is exposed in places, but in many places looks scarier from a distance, and the rock is generally good quality. There is a short climb within about 500m of pt 1795, which becomes less intimidating the closer you approach.

We did this route in mid march, and found only a single patch of snow about 100m below the summit. In good conditions, a fit, experienced party with a head for heights could do the return trip to the hut in maybe 8-9 hours. Allow 5-6 hours each way if you want some time to take in the views, if there is a chance of poor weather or visibility, or if your knees don't appreciate the steep downhill back to the hut.
