From the Aparima Huts the track climbs up the hill to the northwest, past an old trig point, and down to a signposted track junction with the Aparima River track. Head north as the track skirts around tussocky farm land belonging to Waterloo Burn Station and into the trees past Pt 580. Descend down the other side to reach Coal Creek from where the track can be left to head to Becketts hut.
