An average 4WD track leaves the Ahaura - Kopara Road at an unmarked but obvious junction as shown oin topomaps. The track has initially a good gravel bed but is rough and the surface deteriorates to become definitely 4WD only with 1-2 foot deep water holes and some muddy sections. It is 4.5km and should be an easy if boring hour walk if you can't drive it. The track is mainly flat expect for a brief gentle descent to the valley floor just before the hut.
