From Iron Gate Hut a well marked track climbs steeply onto the Spur. The track then climbs at a good gradient until you hit Goblin forest and then eventually the open tops. There are no markers once you leave the bush until you hit the the Iron Gates Spur Summit. There is 1 or 2 spots that might be tricky in bad visibility as you have to drop slightly before climbing again. In good visibility the route is obvious.
