From the swingbridge, follow the well marjed track up the side of hte river. Climb up and over the saddle to avoid the gorge. Look out for wasp nests! Drop down to the river and then even though the DOC track ends, there is a fairly clear trail heading up the river on the true right through open bush, that climbs up over some slips before dropping back down into the river. There are some open flats on the true left just below the hut which is located just in the bush.
Quick and fairly easy travel when the river is low.
