Can get pretty cold and exposed on the summit in winter with several snow dustings a year,

From the sheep pens, follow the obvious logging road up the hill. There are some DOC markers on the occassional stump. Near the top, keep an eye out for some markers leading off into the bush. There is a bit of a kink in the fence line at this point. You can dip into the bush here, or carry on climbing up the open spur before crossing the fence and entering the bush at some more markers. The track becomes a proper tramp with some nice bush and bush lawyer. Follow the ridge up through the odd scramble before topping out at the trig. Just on from the trig there is a chopper pad with good views (better than the summit if looking South.

From the summit trig, follow the well marked trail north, droppng steadily down throgh the bush. WHne you get to a short flat piece near the bottom, you can carry on through the bush or climb out of the bush, cross a fence and follow the grassy trail down (to join with the bush track slightly lower), then follow the logging road down to the pens.
