(As of May 2024, this poled DOC route is incorrectly located on the Topo50 Map. Several hut book entries in Adventure Biv complain about being put wrong by this error.. The line here is from our GPS, and we were on the poled route the whole way from saddle to biv... )
Steep descent through tussock, then sub-alpine scrub.. Plenty of poles near the top, but they become more spaced before the scrub line. There's a weak ground pad at this point, so this section would be challenging in low visibility. From the start of the scrub, the route continues down steeply, then traverses abruptly north to cross the tributary of Zit Creek.
Orange triangles mark the exit from the track, back into a reasonably well cut and easy to follow track, which meanders quite a bit.
