On open tussock covered ridgelines follow north to near Lake 798. Follow open leads through scrubby parklands and ascend to Pt 1096. Go east along the ridge and drop steeply to a damp saddle, where camp site can be found on the south east side.Regain the ridge through rocky slopes, and follow the stony ridge to Pt 1372 (first of 2). Cut under the next Pt 1372, and descend carefully through snowgrass covered slopes. Recently, someone has extensively cairned the route, making it more straightforward. The slope ends in a gentle tussock covered area, which leads to the bluffs above the Long Burn Roa Stream Saddle. Take care to find a good deer trail at the south end which leads nicely through the bush. While the saddle itself is fairly damp, there is good camping higher on the east side.
