From Manson Hut, head south through a tongue of beech directly behind the hut to the crest of a spur where a stamped metal sign indicates the roughly marked route east to Old Manson Hut. Follow the foot bed down through slips, clay-shutes & manuka scrub. The route drops steeply buts becomes better defined, becoming a track as you re-enter the beech forest. The track finally emerges into a flat, grassy basin 100m below & Old Manson Hut sits on the edge at the back of the bush-basin.
